I was having a hit in the nets recently and started to think about how I could break down the art of batting to it’s most simple forms. What do we need to focus on and what is important to ensure that we can perform consistently?
Obviously I can only provide you with my opinion but I was able to come up with four different aspects of batting that I believe can improve your results and performance. Before I talk about these though, I want to make it clear that I am leaving technique out of this discussion. The reason being, some people may have developed their own style and feel comfortable playing that way only. If it works for you, that’s great. I don’t think you need to change it if it feels natural.
So, the four things I thought about were,
These are also listed in terms on importance (in my opinion). If you are able to work on these four components of your batting, you should be able to develop into a fairly consistent player.
I’ll quickly mention again, this is not about whether you are a strong on side/off side player, or whether you are technically sound. These are general attributes required by all batsman.
Obviously this is just what I think. Do you guys agree/disagree? Feel free to share your thoughts.
What I’m going to do now is work on developing specific exercises that can improve each of these individual areas so soon enough you’ll be an outstanding batsman.
I know this is a short post but it is something I just wanted to jot down so that I would remember these key areas of focus and develop in the future.
